Fountainworks Studios is owned by Charles Crum. He earned a BLA from Western Maryland College majoring in Art History. He served as the first executive director of the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center, successfully launching the Delaplaine into what has become the region's premiere visual arts center. His work with his family-owned, plumbing and HVAC business for 24 years laid the foundation for his current occupation as the HVAC and Plumbing Instructor for Frederick County Public Schools.
     
Having earned his Masters in Education, Charles is expanding Fountainworks' mission to include educational components in the plumbing and public art. Charles' training and talent combine to offer an array of public art design solutions. From functional handrails to whimsical and commemorative fountains, let Fountainworks Studio provide the design and build experience.

Fountainworks Studios works with other designers to create unique water effects and can provide a creative solution that fits the budget. In addition to creating original custom designs, Fountainworks Studios offers fountain restoration.

Charles' entry was among the finalists in Frederick City's inaugural public art competition. The proposed design was a large-scale, interactive timepiece that chronicled local history and introduced visitors to earth science.

His 2003 mixed media design included steel, concrete, and bronze. Charles proposed that the sundial would be a 30' ellipse with a 13' gnomon. As the shadow of the gnomon swept across the ellipse it would point to plaques denoting the hour and each commemorating events throughout Baker Park's 75 years.
